Author(s): Australian Geographic

Education

As the non-convict population of Australia grew there came increasing demands for each colony to be self-governing. Britain would nopt grant this while transportation of convicts continued. This book relates the battle, against entrenched interests, to make the colonies free settlements. As transportation ended the way was opened up for self-government in the 1850s.
