What could have become of the lost child? His nursemaid takes him away from what she believes is an unsanctified home – a Jewish home. She takes him to a monastery in Italy where Felix grows up in the church’s tenets and teachings. He’s an excellent pupil and a devout Catholic. However, no one could ever deny that Felix has been circumcised at birth. Unbeknownst to Felix, on her death bed his nursemaid confesses to having abducted him. As he climbs the steps that will ultimately lead him to become pope, Felix continues to remember the poems his father wrote for him when he was a boy. When the day arrives in 1086 – after refusing to accede to the papal throne twice – Felix dons the vestments of Pope Victor III. He is convinced that he is a Jewish Pope. A year later (1087), Victor III disappears from his chambers. His body is never found. Some claim that he committed suicide. Some others say that he was pushed out of the window by someone who knew who he really was – a Jewish Pope.
